Green algae in a koi pond, to be or not to be? (below)

As we said before, green algae can purify and stabilize the water quality, absorb and transform harmful substances in the koi pond, it is a beneficial organism for the pond and we do not recommend removing it completely with chemicals.

However, there is no doubt that algal blooms that cause greening of the water in the fishpond can seriously affect the ornamental quality of the fish, and can also damage the microbial ecosystem of the water body and lead to an imbalance.

So, just a lot of fishers have asked me:How can I control algae growth and have a clear pond with healthy and active koi?

Honestly, you're asking for the ceiling, isn't that the ultimate goal of koi keeping?

I've been studying this Koi keeping thing for 10+N years, just to make it easy to have clear water and beautiful fish. I can give you the following suggestions, which are also summarized by our partners after a long time of practice, prepare a small bench and sit down!

1
Establishment of a sound filtration system

Establish a strong fish pond filtration system to eliminate ammonia, nitrogen, and nitrates. This includes enhanced physical filtration to filter out fish excreta and bait residue in a timely manner to reduce the chance of organic matter being broken down by bacteria into ammonia and phosphate.

At the same time, the powerfulThe UV sterilization system kills 99% of harmful flora in the water and maintains a continuous balance in the microbial ecosystem of the water body.

A, there are two ways to establish a filtration system, building a filtration pond and installing an integrated fish pond filter. The construction of the filtration pool and the precautions have been shared in the previous article, interested in flipping through, welcome to leave a message in the comment section, thank you for your attention.

B. If you did not plan a fish pond filtration system at the beginning of the construction of your pool, then directly installing an integrated fish pond filter is the best choice.

Find professional manufacturers, choose a set of physical filtration, biochemical filtration, sterilization, algae removal, oxygenation cycle as one of the water treatment equipment, it can be said that the "sparrow is small but all the organs are complete", the installation is also simple.

The point is that the built-in sterilization system can destroy microbial DNA, sterilization at the same time can destroy algae, usually about 3 days can see the effect, 7 days can see the water quality clear to the bottom. At the same time, it will also increase the oxygen to the fish pond, with scientific and effective fish pond filtration system, to realize fully automatic fish pond water circulation filtration, water purification, simply don't be too perfect!

2
Reduce or minimize sources of organic matter

This includes reducing the stocking density of fish and reducing feeding when temperatures are high or very low.

3
Adequate light
Green algae undergoes intense photosynthesis and grows rapidly under bright light. Coupled with too much lighting, green water is sure to erupt. This is especially true of outdoor fish ponds in direct sunlight.

The moss that grows on the bottom and walls of the pool is called benthic algae. This kind of algae usually appears in the case of excellent water quality conditions, not only does not affect the water color, but also helps to stabilize the water quality, which can be used as a delicacy for koi. Therefore, do not remove all of it when washing the pond, but generally just clean it briefly.

The presence of planktonic algae blooms is a sign of poor water quality, so they should be removed.

Planktonic algae are more likely to appear at the beginning of spring, summer and fall/winter every year, when the water temperature is 15 to 20 degrees Celsius. Their appearance is not a good thing, but fish enthusiasts can effectively avoid the growth of planktonic algae by thoroughly washing the pond and changing the water.

Therefore, the way to prevent the emergence of planktonic algae in large quantities is to maintain good water quality and avoid excessive nutrients in the water, such as controlling the amount of bait, not to have leftover bait, and usually pay attention to water changes and drainage.

Finally, yellowish-brown diatoms or reddish red algae can cause some harm to koi and should be removed as soon as they appear.
