After a long period of research and experimentation, scientists have discovered that most animals have a group of proteins in their bodies that deliver carbohydrates to the cell's mitochondria for energy. However, in the absence of oxygen, the depletion of carbohydrates produces lactic acid, leading to lactic acidosis, which can cause death in humans and most animals within minutes of oxygen deprivation.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/p>\n

Goldfish and carp, on the other hand, have evolved a second protein system that converts lactic acid in the body into alcohol, which is then released through the gills to avoid death. Scientists have measured these goldfish and found that their blood alcohol concentration can even exceed 50 mg\/per 100 ml, meeting the standards for drink-driving in Scotland and the Nordic countries.<\/span><\/section>\n
Scientists have calculated that if goldfish are placed in an airtight beer can, they can turn the water in the glass into \"beer\" with an alcohol content of 41 TP3T in 200 days! Isn't that amazing?<\/span><\/section>\n<\/p>\n
